I take a Honda TRX 400 FGA with both ESP and Auto. It seems to get stuck in a gear and won't become out, so won't shift, and if you go to reverse it acts like it'due south in high gear with no power. Do the hondamatic manual accept oil in them? If you plough information technology off and back on a few times information technology seems to stop doing information technology and then it work nifty for a bit. I besides noticed tonight everything around the engine seems to be a lot hotter than usual it smelt a bit funny likewise when parked back in the garage. Whatsoever suggestions before I telephone call honda?

Is your gear indicator flashing? If and then, how many fast flashes between the long ane(due south)?

Honda transmissions share oil with the engine.

with the hondamatic there is no gears to stick and yes it uses oil, shares information technology with the motor. for the esp option it basically uses a pressure limiter to feel like gears. with the hotter feel. i would be looking at the oil color etc... might be worth information technology to just change the oil and filter and check for shaving etc... too. check your oil cooler rad. it may look clean but exist very dirty. tin y'all see light through it. is the metallic shiney or irksome. at present when it acts up does it make sputtering awful sounds. at that place wouldnt exist a flashing code, but it is very obvious. this is the rubber or limp style. mine was going into condom style every at present and again. di electric greased the connectors and the safe mode hasnt happened since. anyway there are lots of things that can cuase what you have described but i would defintely not ride it until somebody looks at it or you effigy it out.those honda matics are extremely expensive to replace and typically when they go they take the motor with them and vice versa.

Thank you for all the advice and then far, my meter was part of the trouble and I finally got that repaired wishing that might solve the other problem as well. No Luck!.... information technology'due south still doing the samething as earlier just at least now I can read the codes, I thought I counted four the first time but at present I am counting five for sure. does anybody know what each number of flashed stand for?

Three and Five is most often an angle sensor; the weak link in the whole system. If the bending sensor and wiring check out okay, and so most probable a ECM fault.

Here are all the codes:

1 flash, euc (writing and recording circuit) , probable faulty part ECU

2 flashes ES shift switch system (up and down) probable faulty part, shift switch, related wiring harness, or ECU

3 flashes, angle sensor system, likely faulty office, angle sensor, or incorrectly installed, related wiring, or ECU

four flashes, gear position switch arrangement, probable faulty part, gear position switch or related wiring or ECU

5 flashes,ECU motor driver circuit, likely faulty part,ECU

6 flashes, ECU neglect rubber relay circuit, likely faulty part,ECU

vii flashes, ECU voltage convent arrangement, probable faulty role, ECU

viii flashes, angle sensor organisation, likely faulty part, angle sensor, or control motor, or related wiring, or ECU

ix flashes, angle sensor organisation, probable faulty office, angle sensor(curt or open), or related wiring , or ECU

10 flashes, ignition pulse generator arrangement, probable faulty part, ignition pulse generator or related wiring

11 flashes, speed sensor organisation(vehicle speed), probable faulty office speed sensor or related wiring or ECU

12 flashes, gear position switch system, probable faulty partgear position switch or related wiring, or ECU

Cheers for the answers, I noticed again last night that information technology works fine when I am running in the ESP mode but information technology starts acting upwards when I either shift to reverse or switch to Auto..... you think I should start with the angle sensor. I believe I know which one that is, information technology should be a fairly easy gear up if I can remove it with out wrecking the wiring. Is it the one on the left side of the transmission?

Kickoff with the bending sensor...it's almost always the angle sensor.

Yes, left side.

Hi
I have an 04 Honda fourtrax 400, When the bicycle had 1500 KM on it i started having the same trouble seemed to get stuck in high gear, I took it to the dealer and a month later they replaced something in the clutch and wanted to charge me $700.00. I called Honda canada and they concluded up paying for it. How at 4000 KM it is starting to do the same thing as well when it goes below deg C It will take 10 to 20 min before i can get it to go into gear. All this talk about sencors sounds similar a identify for me to start. Any other ideas?
Thank you

If I remember right, a lot of people have complained nigh the 400 machines. I have had a 450 ES never a trouble and now take a 500 RubiconCTE and no problems. A lot of miles on these babies.

We take two 2005 500 Rubicons (one is CTE and one is not) and both began exhibiting the flashing code matter a couple of weeks ago. Mine cleared up on its own, just and then went back into limp mode in the heart of a ride yesterday. They're both on their way to a dealer. Clearly this is a significant problem with Hondas.

Very weird that two machines would have the same malfunction at the same time ... just common chemical element was extremely deep water that nosotros probably shouldn't accept gone through ... problems started presently after that. The two Yamahas and other Honda (a Fourtrax) didn't have any issues with that water though.

All the car shift honda models have sensor problems sooner or later on. It is non uncommon.

Keep in mind the codes I listed above is for the ES type. Rubicons accept similar, simply different codes. I'll practise a divide post with both set up of codes and run into if Ron volition pasty information technology in the honda forum.
